Anne of Green Gables is based on the novel’s namesake by Anne Shirley. The play is a short 90 minutes that focus on the main character defining moments of the play. Brother and sister Marilla and Matthew are looking to foster a boy to help with work around the house, but quite unexpectedly, Anne is sent to help them. Boisterously loud and wiry, Anne charms the brother and sister into keeping her around. She gets into quite some mischief, accidentally giving her best friend Diana wine while they are having tea, fending off the advances of Gilbert, the boy in school who fancies her, and practically drowning in a boat attempting to reenact the Lancelot story and the death of his lover, Elaine. The endearing qualities of Anne come to life to warm the audience’s hearts in this picturesque coming-of-age story.see less
